Punda Maria Rest Camp is the northernmost camp and is situated just eight kilometers from the Punda Maria gate.
The camp has a small reception area with sightings board next to the shop, petrol station, swimming pool, restaurant, Flood-lite waterhole and hide and short walking trail within the camp called the Flycatcher tail.

The Flycatcher walking trail is a lovely way to explore Punda camp, we have see many special birds, monkeys and insects along the way.....
the cozy restaurant provides some delicious meals with good friendly service....
Punda Maria has a range of accommodation: 2 Family cottages, Safari Tents, Russell Guest Cottage, campsites and it still has the old white-washed bungalows, built in the 1930's. At night the lanterns are lit providing the 'old-time' atmosphere....
There are two rows of bungalows, one row overlooks the road while the other looks onto the back of the first row, but they are all comfy and provide an atmosphere of bygone days;
The 3 bed bungalows have a fully equipped kitchenette, while the 2 bed bungalows have the use of the communal kitchen. They all have a shared long veranda with table and chairs for each bungalow......
The bungalow interiors have been renovated, both have en suite bathrooms, fridges and air cons.
and a communal braai area with benches, and the bird bath is just behind the wall....

There is 1 en suite loft bedroom with a small patio with another 2 bedrooms downstairs, one with 2 single beds and 1 bedroom with a double bed and both have en-suite bathrooms.
There is an open plan kitchen, dining area with bar and a comfortable lounge with limited DSTV. The small patio has table and chairs and a braai area......
The newest addition to Punda Maria camp is the, Russell Guest Cottage. This lovely large cottage with its own entrance gate is perched on a hill overlooking the camp.

Each has an en suite bathroom, one with a shower and one with a bath...
The seven safari tents are superb, they are large and secluded from the rest of the camp, and surrounded by lush bush giving each tent privacy....
Each safari tent has 2 single beds......
with en-suite bathrooms with separate toilet and storage area....
a fully equipped open-air kitchenette...
and a large wooden deck with table and chairs and a braai area...
Tent number 4 is our favourite as it is on the perimeter...

The large shaded campsite has communal ablutions and communal kitchen areas with hotplate, 24 hours boiling water and a microwave, some sites have power and some don't. A few sites have a perimeter view or waterhole view.
What comes to your dwelling place at night? these little critters often pop in to the tented area for a visit. In the picture below, the Bush baby came to eat my chili beans from the pot....
The hide is located in the camping area of Punda Maria camp - it’s close to ablutions and safe to walk to at night. There are 2 flood lights situated below the hide offering great nighttime game and bird viewing; we have had a procession of animals come down to drink...
and by night; we have seen leopard, civet, buffalo elephant, nyala and many night birds....
Talk a walk round camp or sit at the bird bath and see what comes down to drink.....
Punda rest camp offers a range of activities: guided game drives, guided walks and bush braais, just ask at reception when you check in or you can do self drives.
The Punda Maria area is very good for regular sightings of lion, buffalo, elephant, leopard, kudu and even the occasional wild dog and cheetah. The S99 Mahonie loop has beautiful scenery plus its good for lion, elephant, nyala and sharpe's grysbok....
This is the area of the Baobab trees, which can be seen all the way from the camp and up to Pafuri...
