Taken near Letaba on 6 Sep 2008. The guy in the white jeep couldn't believe his eyes at the size.

We saw this big tusker at 5.30 in the evening near Letaba and had to wait for him to cross the road before we could go back to the camp. Does anyone know who he is?

This tusker indeed is Hlanganini
by: Mario

Hi Gavin

Dr Johan Marais, the Equine and Wildlife surgeon at Onderstepoort, confirmed this...

"This tusker indeed is Hlanganini. He was really an impressive bull and I think he died way before his time - he was approx. only 49 years old when he died - killed by another bull we think."

Hlanganini
by: Gavin Roux

Hi Mario,

I have done a bit of research and his name is Hlanganini, unfortunately he died in July 2009. I have added some more pics of him and titled it Hlanganini - a tribute
